A toddler has the amazing ability to get real.
Amazing , because we seem to have lost that ability.
- If the kids are having a blast and we interrupt for lunch,
we hear the now infamous
"no tidy up time"
tantrum from Simbo.
(She is being real, and in her own way saying:
I was having fun and now I'm frustrated
because you think food should be more important than playtime)
- And we don't get more real than Nellie
and her song, "I poo-poo in my potty",
which she sings...
on her potty.
- Or how about Junior putting his finger on his lips
and telling me to "shhhhhh"
when I moan too much.
- Or Lonwabo waking up and pretending to giggle
until he does really giggle.
Keep it real.
What lessons can we learn from these babes?
1) communicate our frustrations in a
unique but respectful way
2) sing songs about finding the highlight
in our crap seasons
3) pray about setting up new boundaries
to shhhhh the negative influences
in our lives
4) practice your giggle on the inside of you
so that your genuine laugh
can be heard out in the open.
Maybe sometimes
we just need to
get real
:)
